First I would like to say how proud I am to be a woman!
I didn’t watch the Golden Globes last night but waking up this morning to all the articles, posts and pictures it feels like I was front row!
Last year Hollywood went through a big loop when sexual allegations started to unfold. By now we all know dude’s name so I don’t think I need to address him in my post. It was almost like a domino effect. Once one woman told her story, there was another, another and then another. It was evident that Hollywood, just like the rest of the world had a problem.
For these women to stand up to these men, in most cases very powerful, was beyond courageous. Not only did they take a stand for themselves but the many women across the globe that are victimized every day. According to the UN “It is estimated that 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner at some point in their lives. However, some national studies show that up to 70 per cent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime .” 70%!! That number puts a big knot in my stomach. With women coming forward and men being there to support them we will eliminate that number altogether.
As a mom to a little girl I am not as scared for her future as I once was. Why? Because she will have so many phenomenal women to look up to. Letting her know that she can do and be whomever she wants to be. Do not allow ANYONE to get in your way and if they do you bulldoze them down. I have my daughter say daily affirmations,
“I am strong, I am beautiful and I am smart”
in the mirror to herself so she knows who she is and what she is capable of.
I originally was going to post my top looks for the night but Oprah’s acceptance speech stole the show. From the moment she took the stage a wave of emotions came over me. You know when someone’s words ignite such emotion tears start to build up in the rims of your eyes? Yea, it did just that.
“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men. But their time is up.”
